Carol ★★★★½

Carol is an interesting and engaging exploration of love and loneliness. Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara are both fantastic as they add extra humanity and pathos to these characters. The film's cinematography is very good as it often uses close ups and wide shots in ways that emphasize the isolation and the attraction of the characters. The beautiful and melancholy score also enhances the film's story. The story captures the emotional arcs of the lead characters very well and it shows the nature of various kinds of relationships. The film's central romance is affecting and the dialogue between the two is well executed. This is a fine romantic film and a strong showcase of superb performances.
