    Seven Samurai

So much has already been said about this film, which is without doubt one of the best films of all time. The more I see it the more I look at the details, and the more I look at the details the more impressed I am with them.

Don't be discouraged by the length of the film which is almost four hours. I've seen 80 minute films that seemed to last for days, and with Seven Samurai you don't see the time pass.

Yes, this film is a masterpiece, an accessible and entertaining one.

How do you call a film with a compelling and universal story, a film that makes you laugh and cry, a film with incredible photography, inspired direction and impeccable acting? A masterpiece? I think that's what it's all about.

  • Rashomon

Rashomon is a turning point in Kurosawa's career. It is a turning point because it is the movie that will reveal him to the West (Golden Lion at Venice and Oscar for best foreign film).

Here we are presented with the rape of a young wife followed by the murder of her husband. Breaking the fourth wall, the protagonists tell us what they have seen. Four testimonies, all different. A monk taking refuge under the roof of a half-destroyed temple is losing his faith in humanity.

This film highlights the acting talents of Mifune, who breaks away from the role of Yakuza that used to stick to him. In this film, Toshiro is touching as a young police inspector who has his gun stolen and is trying to find it. The director of the second film crew is Ishiro Honda, who will direct Gozilla five years later.
