The Michigan and State theaters are thrilled to announce their exciting film series in celebration of Pride Month. Join the theaters as they shine a spotlight on diverse and empowering LGBTQ+ stories through an exceptional lineup of films that will captivate, entertain, and inspire audiences of all backgrounds.

Immerse yourself in the satirical comedy But I’m a Cheerleader, a colorful exploration of sexuality and self-acceptance. Be inspired by the legendary documentary Paris is Burning, celebrating the ballroom culture and the resilience of LGBTQ+ individuals. Let the iconic musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch take you on a journey of self-discovery, identity, and the power of music.

The series continues with other remarkable films, including The Birdcage, a hilarious and heartwarming comedy that challenges societal norms; Velvet Goldmine, a dazzling homage to the glam rock era and queer identity; Moonlight, a poignant and Academy Award-winning coming-of-age story; and To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, a delightful comedy celebrating friendship and self-expression.

Additionally, the State Theatre is proud to present A Fantastic Woman, an Oscar-winning film showcasing resilience and the strength of a transgender woman navigating love and loss; and Showgirls, a cult classic exploring the highs and lows of show business through the lens of a determined LGBTQ+ performer.

The Michigan and State theaters are dedicated to providing an immersive and inclusive cinematic experience. This Pride Series aims to create a welcoming space where audiences can celebrate and connect with LGBTQ+ stories, fostering empathy, understanding, and a celebration of diversity.
