    really plays out like a dream bob dylan had once. it goes by dream logic in the sense it has no logic, albiet in a charmingly dylan-esque vein, and as such is wholly fueled by both his most serious and most silly whimsies. though it isn’t for everyone, it is through this particular slice of non-reality that Masked and Anonymous becomes a staple of Dylan’s work for me, synonymous with his greatest hits— for every nonsense line there’s the ancient esotericism that first sold me on his work, and each time I return to that territory an angel gets their wings.

    the first half has the same energy as The Final Sacrifice but vastly less interesting and its also very obvious where this short film draws most of its inspiration from but there’s a weird, surreal humor to it all starting around the middle that i very much enjoy.
    its in that middle turn that Fried Egg partially flips the switch and comes into its own, downing its student film nature in one fell swig and vomiting back…
