Lovers Rock ★★★★★

Steve McQueen created such a lively experience with this one. From the dancing to passionately singing along to a song as if no one was watching (and if they were watching, then you still don’t care).
*I really appreciated the attention to detail in the DJ’s set. DJing during that time was so manual and required very quick thinking as you had to physically remove and replace the vinyl. An art form, honestly.

I loved that this film was centered on a moment. It doesn’t bring up the past and it doesn’t wonder about the future. It simply lives in the present. Reminds me of an excerpt from this book I’m reading titled Meditations,

“Remind yourself too that each of us lives only in the present moment, a mere fragment of time: the rest is life past or uncertain future.”

Also, Silly Games by Janet Kay may be my favorite song right now. That entire scene of everyone in the middle of the party singing along was electrifying.

I can’t wait to watch the rest of the films in this series. I really do love Steve McQueen!
