"if they add big chungus to space jam 2 i will put it in my 4 favorites"
I actually watched the Nicolas Cage version before this one. I remember it being generally bad, but having positive aspects. The pacing and general atmosphere weren't terrible, and there was some good stuff going on. Most probably wouldn't call Nic's performance a positive but I definitely would.
In terms of this film specifically, It's ostensibly negative views on religion in general are interesting, but what I find more interesting is that this is basically a musical. Not in the traditional sense, but there's extensive song and dance sequences that further the plot.
Looks like I am the second person on Letterboxd to watch the American Netflix release of this (and 53rd overall) which is not much of a surprise, since I started it about 30 minutes after it came out at midnight. I've been pretty eagerly awaiting this ever since I watched the excellent White Snake adaptation by this director. And luckily, the Chinese animation renaissance continues with another stellar animated blockbuster.
The story is a contemporary adaptation of the Nezha story,…
Watched this 2 years ago and I didn't really like it. I had the complete wrong expectation, thinking it would be more like The 5th Element or Total Recall. Rewatching it knowing what I was getting into, I liked it a little more but it still just feels meandering. Not much happens. But at least it's one of the best looking/sounding films of the 20th century.
