Kinda at a loss for words with this one. Feels like such a declarative statement on one’s own life and value with no regard for anyone. That idea unfortunately bled into the troubled and harsh production behind it, and I have no defense for Gallo as a person, yet I find myself so enamored with what he was able to capture here. There’s such a powerful sense of pure discomfort and sadness that you just don’t see elsewhere. It feels so personal and truthful, even with these grand, beautiful moments that take us into some kind of idyllic romantic fantasy. It’s also a very tragically funny film, Gallo has some of hilarious lines that really only he could sell, yet that doesn’t take away from the deep pain that’s present all throughout. Anything surrounding the family especially hurt... but man if that doesn’t make the ending even more beautiful.

Also it’s got the best use of a song in any movie probably ever with that Moonchild sequence. Christ.
