    Not quite my tempo…..

Whiplash is fucking immaculate. I don’t think I can say enough good things about this movie. It’s so simple in it’s story & setup, trying to pursue greatness at all costs, but the execution is just amazing. Chazelle builds so much tension throughout, especially in the first scene in the band room when Fletcher shows up and they play Whiplash for the first time. The entire movie, it’s brutal to watch Neiman strive for his version of…

First thought, Jordan Peele is fantastic. I love his vision, the aesthetic he builds, the narrative he weaves. Coming off of Get Out, it would have been easy to have a letdown for his second film. But I think Us is on par in many ways, even if it didn’t reach the cultural significance that Get Out did.

The songs, the family strife, why it all went wrong, the pacing. It just didn’t speak to me. It was cute, the animation was fantastic, and it’s well made on all accounts. I just didn’t connect with it in a major way and it just didn’t feel unique enough. Just wasn’t for me I guess!

Enjoyed this. THE STANDOUT is absolutely the ending. Lightswitch on, mouth open, haunting & shocking. Cooper A+ here as he realizes the brutal irony as becoming a geek. But the rewarding payoff requires your buy-in of the first 2.25 hours (which some may not be patient enough for with its pacing).

A true blue rags to riches (and back) story backed by greed. Bradley Cooper was terrific throughout, surprised he isn’t getting more love from awards with this. The atmosphere and…
