the one thing that never perishes, the only promise, is love.

duuuuuuudddeee. holy shit. wasn’t expecting to love this as much as i did. understandable if it’s a little too weird for some, but i was very impressed with this. obayashi was totally challenging the patriarchy with this, right??? the house ate unmarried girls!

it was cool that all of the girls had very obvious contributions to the story (gorgeous, melody, prof, mac, sweet, fantasy, kung fu) and i feel like there’s some heavy symbolism there that i’m too dumb to unravel, haha.

in closing, this is a kung fu stan account.

the dude abides. i don’t know about you, but i take comfort in that.

a whirlwind of absurdity with a lot of hilarious moments. i absolutely love this bowling trio who constantly bicker like siblings, yet always come back to each other through their shared passion for bowling. unfortunately, i didn’t find it masterpiece worthy like most, but i 100% would come back to this crazy story and watch it again.

we’re all animals. fighting for scraps on the serengeti. some of us just have bigger teeth than others.

there’s a part in this when nick kroll’s character places his hand on someone’s arm because they’re getting pissed off, and he says “relax moshe, it’s just cheese.” i can’t go into detail on why i found it so hot, but it was.

Somehow everything comes with an expiry date. Swordfish expires. Meat sauce expires. Even cling-film expires. Is there anything in the world which doesn't?

i don’t know how to accurately explain how awesome this movie was, so i’ll just put in something i wrote yesterday about moving on from someone, which i think was depicted beautifully in this movie:

‘i think i get it now’

i respect what could’ve been and things that can not be

    i forgive what blinded me…

“we should be able to kill ourselves. in our heads. and then be reborn. to be able to talk, look at each other, be together. as if we never met before. if my mother and i were strangers, i’m sure we’d get along.”

‘they fuck you up, your mum and dad.
they may not mean to, but they do.
they fill you with the faults they had
and add some extra, just for you.

but they were fucked up in…

“You know what these are? THEY’RE GAZEBOS!

today was my last day of my freshman year of college, and i finally took the time to sit down and watch this movie! much better than the 1990 original, with some stellar casting of the characters, allowing their personalities to truly shine like in the book. can’t wait to see bill KILL it as richie and become the white boy of the month!

i was already laughing 2 minutes in with the film’s immediate demand for respect and the man in the suit threatening to kill someone if they crinkled paper during the movie! something with japanese film just clicks with me. japan is the number one country that i really wanna visit, so i adore watching japanese movies, and especially…

“now i have only one thing left to do: nothing. i don’t want anymore friends, belongings, love. those are all traps.”

i admire a film that conveys its message so clearly and brilliantly with so much silence and still movements. definitely excited to watch the second and third part of this trilogy.
