Minion Max’s review published on Letterboxd:
Tonight on Dueling Chins: Z'Dar v. Campbell, we see the power that inspired, creative direction can have on a rather rote premise. This is your typical slasher with an unstoppable killer and a protagonist who is always in the wrong place at the wrong time, but Maniac Cop earns its cult prestige with dynamic cinematography, stunning use of light and shadows, and of course a funky synthpop soundtrack. Oh, and the stunts. Ohhhh baby, the stunts! Without any spoilers, there's an action sequence at the very end which had my jaw on the floor.
By the by, I'm absolutely shocked that Brian De Palma wasn't involved in this production; Maniac Cop has the mark of his prowess to make even the trashiest of garbage sparkle. Kudos to Mr. William Lustig, the actual director of this piece!
