It feels like a classic now. It will continue to impress after.

This has officially reinvigorated anime for me. The film is an unapologetic, honest look at humanity, while also serving as the perfect bookend that made me appreciate the series as a whole more. All the patience it reserves in its first few episodes builds up to something so poignantly staggering in this finale.
