Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan

Jason takes his sweet ass time to get to Manhattan.

    Loved it.

  • Casper's Scare School

    Casper's Scare School

While a far cry from the original film and even some of the other sequels/shows, Casper's Scare School is a movie that I've always been rather charmed by. There's an unfinished quality to it that almost adds to the bizarre entertainment value, and some jokes that are genuinely funny. (mostly from the villains, Alder and Dash, who's characters are elevated by some really humorous voice acting.) I also enjoy most of the character designs (save for the humans, which look…

  • The Godfather

    The Godfather

Pretty great, but I dunno if it tops the masterpiece that is Steve Oedekerk's "The Godthumb".

  • Gamera vs. Zigra

    Gamera vs. Zigra

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

In preparation for Arrow's incredible looking Gamera collection, I've decided to revisit the Gamera series and finally get around to watching some of the entries that I haven't seen. (as a huge Kaiju fan, I don't wanna say which entries those are. I'm too ashamed.) This won't be in any specific kind of order, so why don't we start with Gamera vs. Zigra? The second to last entry in the first (Showa) era of Gamera films (or the final entry,…

  • The Making of Star Wars

    The Making of Star Wars

This is so utterly wholesome and I love it. Did you know that they re-released this documentary on VHS in 1995 and the only way you could get it was through a cereal box mail away? How cute is that?

Everyone is just sassing each other in this. R2-D2, who's known for sassing 3PO at any given chance, is now being utterly roasted by C-3PO every five minutes. Carrie Fisher's calling Darth Vader out, the Mic guy's being bullied, and Harrison Ford's just sitting on a boat talking about how much fun he had.

  • The Tale of the Princess Kaguya

The Tale of the Princess Kaguya

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

(I wrote this in a "stream of consciousness" sort of fashion for my sister. We both went to see this beautiful film tonight for Ghiblifest and absolutely loved it, but she felt sad afterwords so I wrote this utter nonsense to cheer her up. Obviously nothing here reflects my actual thoughts on the medium of animation, and I'll likely delete it soon, but she's begging me to post it on here for at least a little while, so enjoy it…

  • The Irishman

    The Irishman

    A lot to process.

I really wasn't sure if I was enjoying it at first and parts of the story were hard to follow at times, but the last hour really moved me. Three+ hours is still a little much, but anyone who has an interest in epic crime dramas should give it a shot.

  • The Lion King

    The Lion King

    "A true master...piece...of SHIT!

This was some of the most deranged fuckery I've ever had to sit through...it was like my beloved Lion King was buried in the pet cemetery, and oh, that motherfucker came back, but it was NOT the same! Ok? NOT the same! Grey, bedraggled, and limp. A flaccid waste of time. And money. And I dunno paper? Save the planet? Just fucking don't. I mean...it was garbage for the trash can...it was a tire fire that…

  • Kiki's Delivery Service

    Kiki's Delivery Service

I've always found that my favourite Studio Ghibli films are the ones that feel like they go on forever. Kiki's Delivery Service feels less like a movie and more like a gentle summer vacation. Thanks to the patient pacing and the loveable cast of characters, I feel like I visited this town, met all these people and became friends with them. Seeing this in a packed theatre was a delight.

Also, if you're seeing the theatrical…

  • Barbie: Star Light Adventure

    Barbie: Star Light Adventure

A more engaging galactic adventure than the recent Star Wars and Star Trek offerings. SO MANY SUAVE ROBOTS. Gorgeous backgrounds, too. One of the best Barbie flicks from a visual and character standpoint.

The LIGHTING too. My gosh, the SUN shining through the Trees! Everything was just so cool. Good time.

    Poor Hazuki.

Also, did anyone else see the recap that was supposed to play before this? I took a friend to see it because I'd read that there would be a quick recap of the series that brings newcomers up to speed, but there was no such recap at our showing tonight.

Seeing these films on the big screen is such a delight.
