The good news is that this is far better than the atrocious 2005 iteration of Boogeyman, or indeed Rob Savage's intolerable previous effort Dashcam (though it's still several rungs below his debut Host). It has decent performances - especially from a particularly emotionally dialed-in Sophie Thatcher, who looks remarkably similar to a young Jessie Buckley - and some very effective scares (one jump scare early on in the film - set in a child's bedroom - made me practically convulse…

Fast X 2023
Well that was a total blast. It’s the first time I’ve seen an entry in the saga in theatres since Fast Five and it’s absolutely worth the trip to the cinema to view in IMAX. A lot of it is stage-setting for what will come in the next two entries but who cares when it is this much fun. The Rome sequence is a slam dunk, there’s lots of laugh-out-loud moments, and Jason Momoa is probably the best villain yet…

Wrong Turn 2: Dead End 2007
A surprisingly effective straight-to-DVD sequel that goes on a different tangent story wise to the more straightforward original film, and notably ratchets up the gore factor in nastily inventive and horrifically grotesque ways. Also darkly amusing at more moments than one. It’s a bit long for what it is and has some annoying characters/performances (especially the douchebag horny guy who couldn’t die fast enough and stayed alive far too long) but there’s more here to like than dislike. I’m sure it’ll remain one of, if not the only, films in the franchise to come close to living up to the original.

The Tuxedo 2002
A dumb plot to be sure, with some at times sexist humour that lands with a thud, but remains watchable thanks largely to the charm of the two main stars (I just adore JLH). Very fun bloopers at the end too.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 2023
While I haven't revisited the first two in a while, I'm fairly certain this is the best GOTG film to date. It's beautifully heartfelt, even moving at points, and Gunn's script crackles and pops with great dialogue and character interaction (the film is frequently hilarious - I can't remember the last time I audibly laughed so much in a theatre), all sold wonderfully by the ensemble of actors. It's probably a bit too long (a complaint that can be leveled…
