This Sci-Fi Action film blends the Tech-Noir, Body Horror, and Revenge genres, with the fight scenes and dark humour working especially well.
I've wanted to watch this for ages but I have also been avoiding learning too much about it. Consequently it was quite different than I expected - the futuristic setting, the tone, and exactly what the 'upgrade' entailed. Also, more than once the story went in a different direction than I thought it would. This meant that, even if the overall framework of the plot was familiar, this was an unpredictable and very entertaining film.
I think there's a lot of scope for a (quite different) sequel but apparently a follow-on TV show set in the same world is planned instead.
