Had high hopes for this 80s gothic horror movie that was mostly pointless and unsatisfying. Some cool practical effects but that’s about it
One of those films that gets tight under your skin and lingers with you but only partially for the reasons you're probably expecting. This movie isn't exactly what you might think it is, and that's kind of hard to get into without giving away spoilers. What I can say is that it's an unforgettable debut from Joel Edgerton with great performances, a sharp handle on slow-building tension, and rich character work. A really stressful, even maddening movie but all for the better.
