I came in skeptical but it won me over and lived up to all its hype. You may think you know the story, but the doc helps you live in the moment and truly feel it. So much fun to live through some of the excess of the 80s, it's a rise and inevitable fall story that's hard to resist (has any 80s excess story not ended in failure?).
But it is the deeper questions of both nature vs. nurture and of ethical experimentation that makes Three Identical Strangers particularly compelling. It may lose steam after concluding its central story, but it remains a burning question mark with ambitious and compassionate themes. Definitely one of the finest docs of the year.
