RoboCop

RoboCop ★★★★

Paul Verhoeven's 1987 original, which spawned 2 sequels and TV show/TV movies, cartoon series etc.....but for me its all about the original movie...

In a lot of ways very much a film of its time, arriving during the high of the 80's action movie, shortly after the success of The Terminator, its one of those films that could have been a forgettable genre movie but like the Terminator, its well written story, action pieces and endlessly quotable lines make this a classic of the 80's that still holds up today. Yeah at times the SFX are showing their age but Id take dated (but still excellent) stop motion over bad CGI anyday

Like other films such as Romero's Dawn of the Dead as well as the 80's action the film is much more than just a one dimensional action flick, with the story of consumerism, corporate greed, privatization etc, as well as the obvious comparisons between Robocop/Murphy's story and that of Frankenstein's monster or Jesus.

One of my favourite 80's films...and one of my all time favourites. And the new remastered Blu ray transfer looks very good indeed.
