Ian Hobbs’s review published on Letterboxd:
Combining absurd humor and gangster shit; Taika Waititi's Hunt for the Wilderpeople flew under the radar for most of 2016 and that's a shame because it really offers some of the best comedy of the year. During the first half of the film I found myself laughing out loud multiple times. Julian Dennison is super hilarious and I hope he gets more work, cause his presence just makes me smile. His chemistry with Sam Neill brings great jokes and emotion that makes me so happy/sad. It's easy to see that Taika Waititi is a New Zealand version of Wes Anderson and I love that. His direction is perfect; with gorgeous landscapes and breathtaking views, Hunt for the Wilderpeople makes for a visually stunning ride, and a comical masterpiece.
