so i really had absolutely no clue what i was getting into when i started this film but it was very interesting. it was extremely dark and very thrilling while being framed by a fairly simple story of an unfortunate love life. The acting was great: Jake Gyllenhaal(yes i know break through woooow i actually do think he is very talented even though he is terrible in every other way) and Amy Adams were both fantastic, but the writing was messy at some minor points and the cinematography was a bit sloppy. there were a few annoying tropes in there (country girl gone big city with rich important art job and rich important boyfriend now feels lonelier than ever) and there was definitely a bit of woman written by a man syndrome, however it had some very strong points as well.
i am honestly glad that i stumbled upon this movie from netflix’s strange algorithm but i will say this isn’t something i would recommend lightly or without some preparation.
and of course that one guy was a gemini. if this is an accurate portrayal, i’ll be staying out of the south… forever. god im so scared of men. especially hillbillies.
