Flirting with style, crime, and brutality, "Goodfellas" is the crowning achievement of the legendary Martin Scorsese, and it's definitive proof of why he's one of the greatest directors of all time. Injecting a strong amount of vibrancy, energy, and liveliness into his direction with all his essential traits on display, he successfully manages to create an intriguing story while following rather despicable yet extremely fun and compelling characters while making a wildly entertaining experience out of it throughout; a formula he even undoubtedly continues to use today in some of his later films with different ideas in mind. And while many of those do turn out equally as great, it still doesn't top what came before it in my eyes. The pacing is tight, the writing is endlessly sharp, every frame of the camerawork is vivacious and masterfully constructed, the performances are excellent from top to bottom, and it's backed up by arguably one of the best soundtracks ever arranged for film. All these and more make it all the more enthralling even upon constant revisits. Saying that I love this film is truly an understatement at this point but I will continue to further make this point clear until I die one day. One of my all time favorites.
