Maxwell Alexander’s review published on Letterboxd:
The real hero of this film is composer Alexandre Desplat. Without his amazing score I'd completely forget about this film in a week.
I admire that George Clooney wants to direct. I'll defend "Monuments Men" and one day I'll actually finish "Goodnight and Good Luck." Overall, he has talent as a director. Sadly, his talent doesn't translate to something as epic or grand as "The Midnight Sky" needs to be. For all the beautiful visuals it still feels like he bit off more than he could chew and the film suffers.
The tons of the two stories don't go tpgether well. Clooney described the project as "Gravity" meets "The Revenent" which is not a mash up I want. Oddly enough he delivers on that promise. But the meandering plot just leaves you bored. It's pretty to look at but it's forgettable.
