Ryan’s review published on Letterboxd:

Somehow got my mother to come with me this time around, she wanted to know what the fuss was all about. Idk what she thought of it (I think positive overall?) but man was she upset and confused walking out of the theater. I told her during the trailers that it wasn’t about the plot, and focused on characters, to which she smiled and genuinely thanked me for warning her, but I mistakenly did not warn her that there was no licorice or pizza.
On the way home, we pulled into Quick Chek for gas, and almost all the pumps were blocked off, for a moment we thought they were closed. She exclaimed “there’s no gas”, to which I said “it’s just like the movie! 😱”.
After that, I found this article that details a candy-like dough contraption that an Italian restaurant owner deems a solid licorice pizza recipe. Though skeptical, I’m trying to convince her to make it with me sometime this week. Then we get home, and see an ad for Drew Barrymore’s stupid morning show, advertising tomorrow as national pizza day, so yeah I will be purchasing the ingredients tomorrow and making Licorice Pizza (2021) with my mother on national pizza day.
