Movies “Mofa” Fan123’s review published on Letterboxd:
A Quiet Place Part 2 is a fun sequel that lives up to the original. It picks up right after the events of the first film. It’s just an enjoyable ride. There are some nice thrills and some good jump scares. It does at times fall under the generic horror movie tropes but I didn’t mind. Definitely a fun film to see in the theaters. The characters are great. I like what they did with them in this one especially the daughter. Cillian Murphy is awesome. I really liked his character and he added a lot to this movie. Just such a good performance. And of course Emily Blunt is great here as well. Maybe there could have been a bit more done with her mostly towards the final act. I do like what they do with her character though. She does a great job at showing how pained and tired her character is and how much trauma she has as she has really gone through so much. I did not expect that Cillian Murphy would be in this as much as he is because he’s a really major part. I’d say this film really is primarily focused on Millicent Simmonds’s character and she just does a great job. It could have maybe been a bit scarier but then again it is hard to terrify me and it does a great job at building tension. It does rely a good deal on jump scares which I don’t love when horror movies are but some of them are really good and well down. There are one or two that are “false jump scares” where basically a character hears a noise and something jumps out but its just the Wind or something like that. The best way this film builds fear is well of course through sound. Because it’s terrifying whenever a character makes a noise because now you know a monster is coming. The sound design is just incredible and it works even better on the big screen. The direction from John Krasinski is just overall outstanding. The cinematography and editing are top notch. The editing really works well with the implementing the sound. The score is good. It’s a bit intrusive at times. I don’t know if that’s the right word but what I mean is it at times signifies to you that something bad is going to happen or a monster is around the corner which I don’t love but to be quite honest it does build intensity so I don’t mind too much I guess. Its really just an entertaining film. It has its faults but its a really good horror film. The ending is a bit very abrupt though I do get they are building to another film and the Last scene is very cool. It was a great film to see on the big screen.
