Gone Girl

Gone Girl ★★★★½

Gone Girl is a dark, messed up, and crazy film from David Fincher. The man really can direct so well. All three of the films I’ve seen from him are some of my favorites and I’m pretty excited for Mank. I watched this in preparation for that and I might watch Zodiac as well. This was just amazing. I expected it to be spectacular and it did not disappoint. It’s one of those films that really makes you feel icky. It’s not a happy or heartwarming movie. Expect it to be dark. Very dark. I loved the mystery to all of it. All the twists and turns were amazing. There were many shocking moments throughout this movie. Ben Affleck was great as the “protagonist”. Throughout the film I wasn’t sure if I should side with him. I wasn’t sure if he did it. Even after finding out the twist later in the film I was never sure if I should side with him or not. He gave a great performance. However he was not the standout. Rosamund Pike was incredible. She gave one of the best performances of the last decade. The range of emotions she had were insane. I won’t get to into her performance due to the fact that may lead to spoilers. But wow I can’t believe that she didn’t win. She should’ve. At least she was nominated but still! I can’t believe it. The rest of the cast was great as well. Neil Patrick Harris was really good. Even Tyler Perry gave a great performance. Everyone else did amazing jobs. This is an insane movie. It’s not gonna be for everyone. If you don’t like dark movies, do not watch this. I’d still recommend it because it’s amazing but keep that in mind. David Fincher is such a good director. He can make these changes really dark movies but he’s still able to some how entertain you. The story always enthralled me. I didn’t really feel that nearly two and a half hours runtime. It went by quite fast because I was so intrigued by what was happening. The cinematography was quite beautiful. It was of course really well written. The screenplay was great. I loved each little detail in the story. A lot of thought and care was put into it. The ending may not be satisfying but it is amazing. I’m very glad I finally checked this one out. I adored every second of this. I’m excited to see more of Fincher’s filmography. Hopefully I’ll be watching the rest of his films soon. This film blew me away. I don’t have any flaws with it. It should’ve be nominated for best picture to be honest. It had no reason not to be. I hope Mank turns out to be amazing. I don’t think it will be close to the other three I’ve seen from Fincher but that’s only because they’ve all been so good. I wonder if he’ll finally get his Oscar for that movie. I don’t think so but he has a chance. He should’ve already won for The Social Network but of course he sadly did not. This honestly may be my favorite of his but their basically all tied. When I rewatch this I’ll probably do a spoiler review because it’s hard to talk about this without doing that. I’m glad to say that this did not disappoint. I’ve heard some say it’a not faithful to the book but having not read the book I can’t decide that. Even with reading the book, I don’t think my opinion will change for this. Definitely check it out when you have the chance. Overall Gone Girl is an awesome and mind blowing film that is honestly shocking at times!
