Probably the weakest Wick yet, but when the weakest movie in your trilogy is still this incredible, you know you’re doing something right. I cannot stress enough what a breath of fresh air the John Wick movies (alongside their fellow Great Contemporary American Action Movie Franchise, Fast & Furious) are in the irony-poisoned hellworld of the post-Whedon action blockbuster landscape. It’s earnest, confident, exhilarating action cinema made with so much care, creativity and skill. People who say that superhero movies are “modern mythology” are basic bitches who haven’t seen John Wick. The Bogeyman has been cast out of Olympus and betrayed by Hades, left to burn in an inferno of his own making. Rules and consequences. Chapter 4 can’t come soon enough.
