Stop Making Sense

Stop Making Sense ★★★★★

Stop Making Sense is the gold standard of concert films. One of the most genre-defying directors working with one of the most genre-defying bands.

Stop Making Sense doesn't want to put you in the audience. It wants you up on stage, amid the shifting platforms, draping wires and buckets and buckets of sweat.

It's the joy of music, the joy of performance, distilled into about 84 minutes. It's a film I never want to leave; one vibrating with so much love and energy.

I think I've seen it more times than anything else and I still laugh when David Byrne struts down in his giant suit. I still get giddy when he starts racing around the stage. I still cheer when Chris and Tina get to do 'Genius Of Love'. I still get caught up in every single moment of this damn film.

Plan to put it on in the background while you do other things? Haha nope. Now you're trying to recreate David Byrne's moves and looking up where you can buy a giant grey suit.

"They're movin' forward and backwards
They're movin' backwards and front
And they're enjoying themselves
Moving in every direction"
