Bodyguard Kiba: Apocalypse of Carnage

Bodyguard Kiba: Apocalypse of Carnage ★★★

With a budget that looks shoestring even for V cinema, and a non-plot that barely takes an hour, Bodyguard Kiba 2 is somehow better than the original. With a more stylized camera, great humor, and Taiwanese setting, Miike leaves the disturbing ultra violence and awkward yakuza / martial arts fusion behind in favor of this more stripped down, fun story. It's not anywhere near the neights of his later 90s work, but it's a fitting diversion with hints of what's to come (the nightclub sequence being the most inspired).
