The most exhilarating cinematic experience since the Dark Knight. Villeneuve cements himself as not only one of the greatest directors working today, but of all time. There has never been a better cinematic run as perfect as his. A sheer example of giving a filmmaker complete control, to be trusted to tell their version of the story. Greig Fraser proving he is the natural successor to Roger Deakins’ mantle of the great cinematographers as he is let loose to create…

One of the most unsettling films I have ever seen. The horror lies in the minute details under Glazer’s microscope. His use of static cameras with the occasional tracking shot builds a wall between us and the Höss family as they live blissfully ignorant to what happens over the wall. Sofia Coppola was born to make this film. The loneliness of Lost in Translation, the isolation of Marie Antoinette and the imprisonment of the Virgin Suicides all make up Priscilla. Coppola’s dreamscape style draws you into the world of Elvis the same way as Priscilla was. However, behind the dream of being with Elvis are the nightmares exposed through Coppola’s screenplay. The antithesis to Luhrmann’s Elvis and very important to have this story told.

Scorsese only gets better and better. A crime epic with something to say as he uses his platform to raise awareness of an oppressed people and a story that had to be told. Slow build-up to a worthwhile payoff and tremendous performances all round.
