    So glad I took my good friend’s advice and watched this in black and white perhaps just as director George Romero intended. The shadows in this film are incredible as they virtually serve as a supporting character to most of the chaos depicted. I had to check for myself: “Was Night of the Living Dead the first zombie movie?” Apparently a film from 1939 called White Zombie was the first.     I couldn’t help but watch this through the Great Pandemic of 2020 lens. And thus Jaws stood out as more than a glaring allegory for man facing a fear of Mother Nature’s erratic elements. The story symbolized that of a society ignoring logical plans to mitigate fatalities, focusing on preserving the (beach) economy over all else, disregarding predictions based on scientific evidence, and neglecting families who suffered major loss. I don’t think I’ll ever watch this movie the same way again.
