Miserable atmosphere and long languid takes are the main requirement. But those two are not enough. One needs a very distinct style that is hard to describe, but that Bela Tarr utilizes so well in his late films. Black and white is preferred, but not required.

A fair warning: Most of them are incredible, so don't binge them unless you want to OD on mastepieces.
