A Quiet Place

A Quiet Place ★★★★½

A Quiet Place. Directed by John Krasinski (Jim from The Office). A family living in a post apocalypse world, being hunted by creatures that hunt by sound.

This is one of the best suspense films I’ve seen in a long while. The setup and execution is so well crafted, I guarantee reading the screenplay would be impossible to put down. The tension, especially in the 2nd and 3rd Acts is so nail-biting intense.

There are moments where I didn’t exactly know what was going to happen, and the last time I felt like that was last year’s It Comes At Night. Sound is also very important here, as there isn’t much dialogue. Sign language and very quiet whispers is how the family communicates.

The performances are great, given the circumstances. I never knew Emily Blunt and John Krasinski had it in them to do a horror thriller. The way exposition of the world and situation is revealed is the way I wish every film did.

I do have a few nip picks with how some decisions were done but they mainly revolve around the kids, and granted they are kids so I feel that’s kind of the point.

A Quiet Place, is a very well setup thriller that had me on the edge of my seat for the majority of the runtime, constantly listening to the meticulous sound, completely enveloped in the suspense.
