Liza is very much aware of how the concert looks from a short minded perspective and uses it to her advantage. Opening with four very show-tuny simplistic (and great) numbers which is exactly the kind of thing you’d expect from her then subverting your expectations with the groovy contemporary number “I Gotcha”. She’s an absolute powerhouse and I’ll probably watch this many times in the future.
Also “Son of Preacher Man” is one of the greatest live performances ever.
These are people making a film about people making a film about people making a film and it had no right to have turned out as good as it did!
Used to watch this once every couple of months but I haven’t this year since March. I was showing symptoms of Sherlock Jr. deficiency but fear not people, I am now cured.
How it is that I’ve seen this 45 minute 1920’s film 9 times and there are still gags that I missed before I’ll never know. It’s so tightly packed with laughs that the only way to fully appreciate it is by watching it again and again. Honestly an…
