POSSESSION is bonkers in all the best ways. It combines a Bergman-esque meditation on faith, chance and male sexual inadequacy with some astonishing and deeply disturbing body horror. The performances are dialled up to eleven but it works in the context of the film.

This is the second film I've seen in theatres since COVID (all hail the Garneau Theatre and the Not Your Final Girl Film Fest) and I'm realizing how much my hearing has deteriorated. I probably missed 40% of Adjani's dialogue and there were key moments I missed in the moment, only learning about them later when I did some reading. I look forward to seeing this again on physical media with closed captioning.
