Enjoyable! The poster art and title had me thinking this would be a mildly amusing I Know What You Did... teen ensemble funhouse with a Candyman setup. Happily, the recipe we get here is more heavy on the John Carpenter with a bit of David Cronenberg, finding world-weary ex-cop James Lasombra (James Badge Dale) investigating the supernatural stylings of the cultish Pontifex Institute. Dale and director David Prior infuse the proceedings with plenty of good humor, so we’ll forgive a few unnecessarily long sequences of Lasombra wandering around with a flashlight. Will non-horror nerds enjoy this? I have no idea. To me, it feels like a love letter to old favorites, respectful of its influences and not afraid to have some fun.
