Days of Heaven

Days of Heaven ★★★★½

A melancholic exercise in lyricism through the poetry of images, sneaking up on me as it's closing image and final line leave a haunting impression of the human spirit. Philosophically rich, Malick is able to craft such a beautifully raw film that delves into the depths of human ambition, greed, love, loss, and everything in between. How our decisions catch up with us and force us to confront ourselves, leaving lasting impressions on who we become and trying to grapple with that outcome, through the exploration of a love triangle and the road this leads our characters down. Malick is a painter, each image is a brushstroke, and the totality of these images creates his masterpiece. What a film
