    Dead Snow

I thought this movie was great. Not because of incredible directing, acting, or script, but for the simple reason that it's a Norwegian Nazi zombie film. It's full of delightful cliches and suitably cheesy moments. To top it all off, terrible Norwegian pop songs serve as a soundtrack for several scenes including a montage of two characters taking on a horde of Nazi zombies with a chainsaw and a sledgehammer. The acting is sub-par, but the writing doesn't call for…

  • The ABCs of Death

    The ABCs of Death

This is probably one of the most original films I've seen in a while. 26 directors from around the world were each given a letter of the alphabet and were told to create a short film about or involving death, giving a one word title that starts with, you guessed it, their assigned letter. The result is a film the likes of which I've never really seen.

The shorts range from scary, to funny, to bizarre, to beautiful, to surreal,…

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

I really wanted to see this movie when it came out in theaters, but never got around to it. After it came out, the general reviews that I heard said it was overall a pretty shitty movie. This kept me from watching it for a long time, but I finally decided to give it a shot because I love science fiction, I love horror movies, and I'm a sucker for found footage films. After watching it, I was ultimately pretty…

    The Transformers: The Movie

I'm reviewing this film because it is a huge part of my childhood and a major trigger of nostalgia for me. I don't know how old I was when I saw this movie for the first time, but before I was ten years old I'd probably seen it dozens of times. I just watched it again for the first time in probably 10 years, and as my roommate put it, I was "eaten by nostalgia."

    Ultimately, this is a children's…

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

I thought this film was excellent. Going into it, the only Texas Chainsaw film I'd seen was the shitty 3D reboot from 2012. After seeing the original by Tobe Hooper, I now know why it is such a critically acclaimed film, and why the franchise exploded the way it did. It's gritty, atmospheric, and pretty legitimately creepy.

I think what I enjoyed the most was overall look of the film. It was shot on 16 mm reversal film, which needs…

    Rear Window

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

This was the first time I'd seen Alfred Hitchcock's classic masterpiece, which I myself find hard to believe considering a grew up in a home where Hitchcock was a household name heard almost daily. But despite having waited 20 years to see it, I enjoyed it immensely and appreciate why it's so acclaimed and why film buffs love to talk about it.

Rear Window is a testament to the inner voyeur we all have within us, whether we choose to…
