hayzl’s review published on Letterboxd:
this film was so beautifully done, and the acting was phenomenal by everyone involved. for a long time, i thought it was tonya herself who assaulted nancy. i, tonya gave me a totally different perspective. i feel so sorry for tonya. her years of abuse by both lavona and jeff traumatized her into bad decision making. after the word of nancy’s attack got around, everyone blamed it on tonya. people made jokes of her, sent her death threats, and so many more cruel things, when she had no idea what the real situation would escalate to. she got completely screwed. never being able to skate competitively literally ruined her life, while the actual men involved in the attack only got a year and a half in prison. besides that, tonya owed the court $100,000 and 500 hours of community service. i do think nancy kerrigan is the victim of the story, but this film goes greatly into depth on how tonya is, also.
