This film was insane, it’s probably the first melodrama I’ve seen that’s anxiety-inducing. I would go as far to say that it’s at the same level as Good Time in regards to feeling on edge.
I absolutely loved the Technicolor usage, it was very reminiscent of the work done in Douglas Sirk’s All That Heaven Allows. The CinemaScope works surprisingly well too.
James Mason was incredible, shocker right? And Barbara Rush’s performance will break your heart.
