From what I understand the actual account was much more gruesome. Makes you wonder why not just go all the way with it? Still a relatively interesting film in it's uniqueness as a slasher horror of this era. This is more of a psychological profile from the killers point of view.
The camerawork shines here. The overhead tracking shots around the house were great, and this claustrophobic shots of this Gollum looking killer eating sausages and salivating made me more queasy than any other part of it. The shot of him laying on the womans corpse with his pants half down is pretty gnarly. But most of the break in and killings fall pretty flat for me, I wasn't very moved overall.
