Maniac Cop

Maniac Cop ★★★½

Hoop-Tober 2O15 - Beware the Spoon, David.

Chapter VIII of XXXI

This was really fun! To my own surprise, it's both the most entertaining and the creepiest film I've seen so far for Hoop-Tober. It's a very effective mix of genuine horror, with some nice cinematography and a creepy atmosphere, and well done action scenes. There doesn't seem to be that many classics in the action-horror subgenre aside from Aliens, Planet Terror and The Terminator, but while I wouldn't label Maniac Cop as a "classic", it is kind of amazing in its own weird way. It's a B-movie, so naturally it feels a little rough around the edges during certain moments, yet it's probably much better than you think it is. Well, I was pleasantly surprised, at least. Definitely worth a watch.

Also, bonus points for nodding to Magnum Force and for - maybe - being referenced in The Dark Knight. Yes, I like to believe that Chris Nolan is a fan of this movie.
