I, Tonya

I, Tonya ★★★★

“There's no such thing as truth. It's bullshit. Everyone has their own truth, and life just does whatever the fuck it wants.”

ah this one was a lot of fun and though everyone’s hair looked terrible the cool music almost made up for it hahahah.

loved the fastpaced dialogue und fourth wall breaks, there’s interview sections put inbetween recounting the events that happend leading up to the incident and what followed. while i think both Margot Robbie and Allison Janney give tightass performances i’m actually more shocked to see Sebastian Stan serve me so well, he plays a nasty fuck (abusive husband) but AMAZINGLY SO. was also screeching over Paul Walter Hauser the dude had me in tears every time he showed up. the character dynamics are explored really well and particularly between Tonya and her mother.

underlining the quick moving plot is some neat editing, like how it plays the imagery together especially when transitioning between interview and the past story. the film makes a point in calling out the unfair treatment in sports (and society in general) of lower class people and the court scene was heartbreaking af. professional sports are fucking brutal man. but it’s actually a pretty funny movie and gives an interesting take on the 80s/90s and ice skating. Tonya Harding really is that triple axel.
