Athena is a pulsating, fire-breathing, technical marvel. The opening tracking shot lunges you head first into the chaos and the high octane vibe is maintained for most of the film. Its very obvious that Gavras is flexing the film making genes his great GREAT dad passed onto him and he excels at creating a political, visceral tragedy of anger and injustice.
The film does lose steam plot-wise at a point. It feels like they run out of ideas and just got through with it. Still, the great performances of the cast and extras keep the film afloat.
NB: FUCK THE POLICE!
