The first time I watched this film was on the day I accepted my offer to university, 29th December 2017. Back then, I saw myself aggressively in Lady Bird. I too was desperate to move away from home, ready to spread my wings in a city where there was culture. I had great expectations as to what life at university would be like.
I watched Lady Bird again for the first time in a while tonight. Tonight it is just over 2 weeks until my dissertation for my Masters degree is due. I have lived away from home for 4 years, the last few months of which have been spent in my own flat, alone (unless you count the plants and the excessive amount of build-a-bears). In 3 days I will hand in the keys to my flat, carry my life in bin bags out of the building and to my mum's car, and she will drive me 3 hours back home. It's still home to me. I've lived in a different city for 4 years but my parent's home will still be home to me.
A lot has changed while I've been at university. I've grown and matured. Great things have happened. Awful things have happened. But I did it. And my mum is still my best friend.
