Nate Richard’s review published on Letterboxd:
Fuck, this movie is draining.
All Quiet on the Western Front is one of the most graphic, disturbing, and bleak movies I've seen in a very long time. From Edward Berger's direction, the visual effects, the production design, the sound design, the cinematography, and the score, this deserved every single one of its Academy Award nominations. I really wish saw this one on the big screen simply to take it all in, but nonetheless, this movie is pretty damn effective at portraying the monstrosities that war brings.
Felix Kammerer gives such a heartbreaking lead performance as Paul, this movie is almost entirely through his eyes and Kammerer does a magnificent job at showing his character's disillusionment and fear.
I really can't add anything that hasn't already been said. All Quiet on the Western Front is one of the best war movies I've seen in the past decade and it's a movie I won't soon forget.
