Ari Aster's Two Thousand Wicker Man-iacs.
Aster is the real deal and a confirmed master of the genre. This folk horror jam has fantastic performances across the board and some amazingly rich set, production, and costume designs in service of a fairy tale of ritualistic grief that is devastating, intense, measured, psychedelic, gnarly, brutal, beautiful, hypnotic, enigmatic, and even consistently hilarious. One of the best films of the year.
