One of the most exquisitely made blockbusters of the past century. I get now why this was considered such a game-changer for Bond. Sure the plot is the same old paper thin bullshit these films go by on, but it's truly insane how much difference there can be in the style and filmmaking when you have an Oscar-winning director and DP on board. There are moments in this film where it elevates beyond just a franchise blockbuster and becomes almost an abstract visual art-piece in a museum or something. I have mixed feelings on Sam Mendes as an artist now but I've always found it crazy how his prowess in crafting gorgeous images and sound somehow always manages to elevate even the most paper thin of ideas. And of course, Roger Deakins. I mean, come on.
