Now with that out of the way, wow. Another absolute masterstroke by Billy Wilder.
The Hollywood dream reimagined in a faraway, deserted castle. It offers all the wealth, the glamour, the fame, in return for your soul and humanity. The meta ending drives the point even further; a forgotten star losing the grip between her reality and her cinematic image, forever living in a nightmare that gives her everything she wants: fame, power, and the love of the audience sitting in the dark.
