Nev D’Souza’s review published on Letterboxd:
Zemeckis casts a spell that screams spectacular set pieces, but the skin-crawling success and all-round eeriness of the original is noticeably absent here.
Hathaway is hypnotic with her gnarly grin, glamorous gown and a performance played with gusto. She certainly looks the part, although I wish the same could be said for her accent. Maybe leave the self-taught dialect coaching to the professionals, m'dear. I still have a lot of admiration for her though.
The transformation sequence that scurries into a vent with a set of claws close behind is really well staged. Zemeckis has a good grasp on the visual effects with several scenes looking like they could prove to be effective with an injection of 3D wizardry. His Witches are far from frightening though and the enchantment wears off pretty quickly.
