Ian West’s review published on Letterboxd:
My dad isn’t really in to horror movies like I am... he likes a few here and there, but science fiction is totally his thing—we used to rent a ton of sci-fi movies or even horror adjacent sci-fi (which he likes) whenever we’d rent our “3 movies-3 days-3 dollars” deal (it also came with a coupon for 5 bucks off a large pizza and a free 2 liter RC Cola) at one of our local video store haunts. We’d rent shit like this and Screamers with Peter Weller all the time.
I remember we liked this plenty, but it’s been YEARS (maybe 20?) since I last saw this and I scored the blu for $2 at Princeton record exchange so I went it with good vibes—and die the most part, this delivered as far as conspiracy theorist finds out the truth about aliens movies. The fx are fine for 96, and Sheen is ok... getting more manic as he uncovers more of slimy Ron Silvers devious agenda. Not as good as I remembered, but still cool to see a movie this invested in its premise and not treating it like a joke.
Solid.
