Nic Ficca’s review published on Letterboxd:
This movie is subtlety at its finest. Who needs verbal exposition when you have acting and directing as good as this? Lee Chang-dong fully realizes this story in film and makes it look easy. It feels harrowingly natural in its progression; slowly and methodically turning up the tension and intrigue. He makes you think, really think. This is not the type of thriller that nicely sums up the villain's carefully laid out plans and presents them to you a neat package. You need to pay attention. You need to take a moment and think about it when it's over. When things start falling into place in your head, it's magical.
